Overview

The Messages brand faced a critical decline in public perception–it was viewed as dated and uninteresting, with only basic functionality.

I developed and evangelized a new vision for Messaging, centered on augmenting self expression with the goal of building deeper connections.

This newly-resourced workstream was strategically timed with the release of the Google Pixel marketing launch, announced in 2024.

To bring delight to users, I created a system in which certain keyboard inputs (eg "I love you", "👎👎") would trigger fullscreen, visually rich reactions to messages.

Part of this effort was to develop a unique, systematic visual language that is graphically flat, but leverages z-space and incorporates gradients to create depth and volume. Along with concept and creative direction, I collaborated with Oddfellows on execution.
